Dear Sunday School Families,

The Passing the Torch program holds the future of Catechesis in our community with the training of Youth Ambassadors in becoming the new generation of Catechists.

Holy Tradition, the Liturgy, the Bible (Old and New Testament) and the interpretation/understanding of the Bible through the writings of the Fathers of the Church, the lives of the Saints (synaxarion), is what the Sunday School Teachers (Catechists) are transmitting to the students as a complementary tool to the families’ practice of our Faith at home.

The role of the Catechists (Religious Educators) is very important. The Educator becomes a role model for the younger generations. Youth Ambassadors(YAs/CITs) will be mentored by our Primary Teachers on the role of the Catechist.

Youth Ambassadors will teach by their example as well, so please make sure you arrive at church on time. Liturgy begins at 9:30 and Holy communion will be offered sometime close to 10:20. It is always beneficial to have read the epistle and gospel readings before coming to church but certainly most important to do so during the Liturgy. Our spiritual Fathers offer beautiful sermons that help us understand the readings and also use them during class.

Please be mindful of the dress code. Religious Educators are expected to follow a business attire code. As interns, YAs/CITs are also requested to be mindful of that.

Instruction time is 45 minutes from the time the last student enters the class.

Please take a few minutes to read, fill out and submit the following two forms requested by the Youth Protection Committee and Sunday School before entering the class for the first time.

Thank you for your offer to assist the Religious Education Program and become the Light of the Word of Christ on the Torch of our Faith passed from generations to generations. As Orthodox Christians this is the most important work we are called to do.

With Love in Christ our Lord and Savior,

The Sunday School Board
