The Philoptochos (“friend of the poor”) is the philanthropic arm of the Church. The mission of the Philoptochos is to aid those less fortunate and in need – the hurt, the troubled, and the poor. Our fundraising efforts enable us to offer support, outreach, and financial assistance to individuals and families in need. St. George Philoptochos (Chapter #1019) is a vibrant group whose devotion of heart, time, labor, and treasure support the various philanthropic pursuits on a local ‘chapter’ level, as well as, Metropolis of NJ (MNJP) and National Philoptochos Society (NPS) levels.
The St. George Philoptochos is open to all women (at least 18 years of age) who are stewards of St. George Bethesda parish. Men (at least 18 years of age) are also welcome to join as “non-voting associate members”. The Chapter meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month – September through June (unless otherwise noted) . Philoptochos provides Orthodox Christian fellowship along with the opportunity to participate and support local, national and worldwide Chapter philanthropic endeavors.
