WELCOME TO THE 2023-2024 GREEK DANCE PROGRAM

The aim and objective of the St. George Hellenic Dance Troupe is to promote Greek dance in its authentic form. Cultural information relating to the history, costumes, and traditions of the various regions of Greece may be reviewed as it pertains to the instruction of the dance.
We welcome all participants, new members and all skill levels are encouraged to attend! The groups within the program are established by the academic grade of the participants. There will be no advancement or retention of dancers based on ability, talent, coordination, interest or maturity.

In order to offer a consistent and positive program, dancers will be divided in the following groups:
*** LEVEL 1 ***
(Kindergarten, Grades 1, and 2)
Students will begin their Greek Dance foundation by learning to listen to rhythms and move together with the music. They will They will begin to develop a strong foundation in the movements and rhythms common in Greek Folk Dance.
(K students must be in their Kindergarten Grade School year)
*Class begins Sunday, September 10th.

Location: Founder’s Hall
*** LEVEL 2 ***
(Grades 3, 4, and 5)
Students will build upon the foundational movements and rhythms and begin to explore basic dances in a specific region.

Location: Chapel
*** LEVEL 3 ***
(Grades 6, 7, and 8)
Students will build upon knowledge of basic dances and begin to explore more regions of Greece, learning dances with more complicated steps and various hand holding positions.
*Class begins Tuesday, September 12th.
Time: 5:30pm-7pm
Location: Grand Hall
*** LEVEL 4 ***
(Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12)
Dancers are introduced to complex dances and variations of dances all over the regions of Greece. They will begin to understand regional differences in Greek dance, as well as recognition of regional variations in music. Members of this team may be called upon to represent the St. George Hellenic Dancers at official events.

ALL participants must register to attend classes. Registration for the 2023-2024 season will only be accepted online.

* Dancers in Level 3 & 4 who choose participate in the Hellenic Dance Festival/Competition (HDF) may have additional fees for the dance troupe in addition to other costs associated with HDF such as air travel, hotels, HDF registration, etc., once dance sets and costumes have been finalized to cover costumes and guest performers, etc. These fees will be shared with all dancers interested in HDF. Participating in HDF is optional.
** Adults are registering to be part of the Remind communications. Each event will be shared on Remind along with fees associated with each workshop.
*** ADULTS 18+ ***
Adult programming will be in the form of scheduled seminars and workshops taught by visiting guest instructors. Workshops will be organized to cover dances from specific regions all over Greece. All skill levels are always welcome and encouraged to attend.
Seminars, workshops and events will be posted to the REMIND group distribution.
