Our sister, Marina Olson, was called by the Risen Lord to Himself on February 19, 2022 in the 85th year of her earthly life. She was the daughter of the late Iphigenia and Vasili Angelides. She is also preceded in death by her brother-in-law Walter James Martin. She was the sister of Julia Martin (Walter James) and Alexandra Angelakis. Marina met her beloved husband, Carol Olson, and they were married by His All Holiness Patriarch Athenagoras at St. Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Church in Istanbul, Turkey, on November 2, 1958. They had three children, William Olson and his partner Elaine Gershenovich of Florida; Diana Olson of Frederick, MD; and Mary Barnes and her husband Kevin of Silver Spring, MD. She had four grandchildren: Marina Edwards (Sean Edwards) of Abingdon, MD, and their two children Ireland Marina and Patrick Terrance; her grandson Nicholas Walters and his girlfriend Kelsi Martin of Ashburn VA; her granddaughter Carol Barnes and her fiancé Dylan Bernard of Seattle, WA; and Michael Barnes of Ewa Beach, Hawaii. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives, and friends. She is predeceased by her loving parents Iphigenia, and Vasili, and her brother-in-law Walter James Martin.
Her funeral will be on Friday, March 4, at 11:00 AM here at St George. Friends and family may express their condolences one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place following the Funeral Service, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St George Greek Orthodox Church in Bethesda, MD.
