| People may feel alone during the current pandemic crisis. They may be feeling isolated, overwhelmed, and struggling with negative feelings. But we Orthodox Christians can help change that. The International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) has developed a simple initiative called IOCC Care Calls. This program uses a straightforward, phase-based script that you can download below. The materials will guide you through the process of making calls to connect with people, helping them feel cared for while they experience their often-confused feelings. These contacts are a great way to respond to this crisis with compassion and making these calls will nurture your own spirit as well. In my sermon on last Sunday, I referred to the old business motto of AT&T telephone: “Reach out and touch someone!” These are days when reaching out to others is critical.
Whether it’s family, friends, fellow Church-goers, neighbors, or others in need, a simple call will not only show your interest and care, but will bring the light of Christ into lives that are surrounded by darkness and often discouragement. This is a chance for us all to put our Orthodox faith into practice. Attached below you will find a guide and suggested script from the IOCC to assist you in planning and making your call. Please consider it carefully and use it as a tool to touch the hearts and souls of those whom you feel are in need in your life. May the compassionate Lord, Physician of souls and bodies, bless you for your kindness and care to his brothers and sisters who walk with us this shadowy path towards the day when light and hope shall again cover the earth!
Faithfully in the Lord. Fr. Dimitrios
