Dear St. George Family,

Xristos Anesti!  Christ is Risen!

True to the Gospel’s calling, The Community of St. George through the Ladies Philoptochos, the philanthropic arm of the church, is coordinating to reach out and minister to those in need, particularly those suffering and in need from the global pandemic that adversely affects us all.  The information in the attachments with this letter highlights a number of these efforts, including a multi-week food drive, and a Mask-a-Thon to produce face masks for those who want/need them for their safety.

  • MASK-A-THON

Beginning the week of May 11, we will be making facial coverings (masks) to be donated at the shelters.  We are in need of fabric, elastic, and seamstresses.  If you are  interested, please contact us at stgphiloptochos1019@gmail.com

  • FOOD DRIVE

This will be a weekly collection beginning this Sunday, May 17 (2-4 pm drop off at Church).  This week’s food drive is to serve MCVC to feed 5,000 children.  Please refer to the attached flyers that will provide details for specific food items each week.

  • SHELTER SANDWICHES

Shelters are receiving sandwiches, fruits, and pastries each Friday from St. George.  If you would like to participate in this project, please contact Athena Kaiser at avkmail@verizon.net

  • MEALS FOR THE ST. JOHN THE MERCIFUL MISSION CHURCH

This mission church in Washington DC serves the poor and homeless in the nation’s capital.  Sunday School, along with other St. George youth ministries (JOY/HOPE/GOYA) are planning to assist this mission churchby purchasing and delivering prepared meals.  Contact Foteini Paparoupa Pazartzis at fparoupa@gmail.com

  • FEED THE HUNGRY

Feed the Hungry Program is meeting its monthly commitment by providing meals to the Shelters in Montgomery County.  If you would like to offer monetary assistance, please contact Mike Sakellarides at msakellarides53@gmail.com

Please note, as we organize to help our brothers and sisters in need, we are dutifully following the proper protocols as stipulated by the Department of Health in order to assure the safety and wellbeing of our volunteers.  Though there are numerous requests for your time and effort during these troubling days, please consider joining your faith community in our work, not only to meet real human needs, but to witness the love and care of the Lord Jesus for his brothers and sisters.  May He continue to protect us all!

God Bless you for your commitment!
