2018-2019 BIBLE STUDY: “The Gospel of St. John: Beholding the Glory” This year’s Scripture study focuses on the fourth Gospel, composed by St. John the Theologian. Join us every Thursday at 10:30 AM or 7:00 PM in the Church library to explore the depths of the Gospel written by “the disciple whom Jesus loved.”
ADULT RELIGIOUS EDUCATION 2018-2019: Beginning today in the Church library: “The Shared Experience of the Orthodox Christian Faith.” Our theme this year is that our faith is not primarily about ideas or concepts, rules and regulations. It is about our relationship and our personal connectedness with Jesus Christ in the experience of our everyday lives.
LIVE ADULT RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Each Sunday at 11:30 AM, the St. George Adult Education program meets in the Church library and is live streamed to a global audience through the Orthodox Christian Network Facebook page. People all over the world listen to our class, write in their comments, and interact with your fellow parishioners in real-time. On Sept. 23, our class on “When God Seems Absent in Our Lives” was connected to the Orthodox faithful across the U.S. and in the United Kingdom, Romania, Norway, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Egypt, Eritrea, and Sweden, among other countries. The video continues to reach people throughout the week via Facebook. Click the image below watch it now and share with your family and friends!
ADULT INQUIRY CLASS: For adults interested in joining the Orthodox Church. Through discussion, speakers, and personal sharing, adults will be preparing to receive Baptism or Chrismation. Sessions will be held at 7:30 PM on October 3, 17, 31; November 14, 28; and December 12, in the Church Library. Contact Fr. Dimitrios for more information or to sign up.
FOR REFLECTION…..
“ And Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hid these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them unto babes.” (Luke 10:21)
The Lord is in great delight! He is exceedingly joyous over us, the little ‘babes’ who have received Jesus and clung to Him for salvation. Like the humble and unlearned disciples, we are foolish by any measure of this world for placing our trust in a crucified Messiah. For we acknowledge Christ as the one true God, our Redeemer and the source of eternal life. And who are the wise and prudent of this world? Like the Pharisees and Scribes, they are those believing themselves wise, have blinded their own eyes to the knowledge of God. Let us therefore strive to be more like the disciples, babes devoid of pride, and children reliant on our heavenly Father. And the outcome is this, just as through simple fisherman were great wonders performed and many lives transformed, so too will we become God’s instruments of power and beacons of light leading many towards the Kingdom of Heaven.
Prayer
Rid me Lord of the wisdom of this world so that I may be filled, rather, with your eternal Truth.
