May the Name of the Lord be blessed!

On September 17/30, the Holy Orthodox Church commemorates the Martyr Sophia and her three daughters Faith, Hope, and Love; Martyr Agathocleia; Martyr Theodota of Nicea; the 150 Martyrs of Palestine; Martyr Lucy and her son Geminian of Rome; Hieromartyrs Heraclides and Myron, Bishops of Cyprus; Martyrs Haralampus and Panteleon; St. Anastasios of Cyprus the Monk; St. Eusipius of Cyprus the Monk; and the Repose of Blessed Agapius, disciple of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk.  Through the prayers of Thy Saints, O God, save, have mercy upon and bless Thy people. Amen!

2018-2019 BIBLE STUDY:   “The Gospel of St. John: Beholding the Glory” This year’s Scripture study focuses on the fourth Gospel, composed by St. John the Theologian. Join us every Thursday at 10:30 AM or 7:00 PM in the Church library to explore the depths of the Gospel written by “the disciple whom Jesus loved.”

ADULT RELIGIOUS EDUCATION 2018-2019: Beginning today in the Church library: “The Shared Experience of the Orthodox Christian Faith.” Our theme this year is that our faith is not primarily about ideas or concepts, rules and regulations. It is about our relationship and our personal connectedness with Jesus Christ in the experience of our everyday lives.

ADULT INQUIRY CLASS ON ORTHODOXY: A new inquiry class will begin soon. It is designed for adults who want to become members of the Orthodox Church. Through discussions, guest speakers, and personal sharing, the path to the ancient faith of the Apostles will be laid out clearly and enthusiastically — culminating in the Holy Mysteries of Baptism or Chrismation.  Sessions will be held at 7:30 PM on October 3, 17, 31; November 14, 28; and December 12, in the Church Library.  Please contact Fr. Dimitrios if interested.

FOR REFLECTION:

‘And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.’  (Romans 8:28)
God’s goodness is prominent throughout the Bible! And we the faithful proclaim His goodness continuously in our worship and through our prayers. But one must examine if the heart subscribes to what the mouth declares. God is abundantly Good, but do we recognize His goodness in our lives and through every circumstance? And God is sufficiently wise, but do we rely on God’s wisdom; laying down our will in favour of His? God is the almighty and the ever merciful, but do we trust Him to carry us through all seasons of life; giving Him total reign over our lives? For to declare that God is good, sufficiently wise, powerful and merciful, we must first experience His presence in our lives. Only then could we testify that the mighty God can turn even the most dire of situations to the benefit of those who humbly seek Him and lay down their ego in acceptance of His will. Is there anything more comforting for the soul?

Prayer
Lord allow me to discern Your goodness in my life so that I may grow to trust You with my all.
